This coming week we have several bills that need attention at the Capitol. If you live in Austin or can reasonably get there for Monday HB 1686, the companion bill to SB14 is being heard in House Committee and we need people to come drop cards in opposition and sign up for public testimony against. On Tuesday, we have HB 2055 that needs cards in support that removes the language struck down by Lawrence v. Texas that was heard referred to all week as justifications for book bans and don’t say gay provisions. Also that day we have HB 1507 that would ban pride celebrations in schools. Wednesday HB 1952 would ban updating gender markers on birth certificates. This is just what has made it onto the schedule so far for this week and the week‘s schedule isn’t complete.
Please, come drop a card (which must be done in person but can be done from a computer or tablet connected to the Capitol wifi), sign up for oral testimony, or submit written testimony. Write to your rep and senator here in Texas.
We need our allies and our community to let Texas lawmakers know this tidal wave of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation is not welcome in our state.
